WELCOME TO FINCH HAVEN ORCHARDS!
Finch Haven Orchards is nestled in the most concentrated apple growing area in Ontario - the Beaver Valley, in the heart of the Town of the Blue Mountains. Located just west of Collingwood, Finch Haven Orchards is less than 100 miles away from the greatest population density in Canada - the Greater Toronto Area.
The local micro-climate makes the Beaver Valley ideally suitable for apple growing. It is influenced by two major features - Nottawasaga Bay (the southern part of Georgian Bay) and the Niagara Escarpment, better known as the Blue Mountain.
The cooling effect of Nottawasaga Bay retards spring growth until danger of frost injury is generally past. What's more, by the end of the summer the bay acts as a reservoir of heat, extending the period of ripening in the fall. The abundant sunshine and cool fall nights develop great flavour and the bright red colour. And the prevailing wind blowing in from Georgian Bay is largely pollution free - ideal for apple growing.
Starting in 1991 from empty fields, we've planted over 10,000 apple trees of popular varieties.
In the fall, our new crop starts with Jerseymacs which are normally ready the 3rd or 4th
week of August. Quickly following in September and October are McIntosh, Empire,
Royal Gala, Cortland, Red Delicious, Russet, Idared, Jonagold and Northern Spy.
During winter and spring we have a good supply of Empire, McIntosh,
Crispin, Idared, Red Delicious, and Golden Delicious. In late spring
varieties such as Empire, McIntosh, Red Delicious and Idared are still
available. To ensure freshness at this time of year, all our apples come
from Controlled Atmosphere storage.
Sustainability is key to – not only continued farming in Ontario – but the
quality of life we all enjoy. At Finch Haven Orchards, our goal is to ensure
a sustainable property for generations to come. Finch Haven Orchards is also
